Architect, artist, designer Julio Garcia had been designing plans for shipping container homes for a decade before he found the perfect place to build one: on a long, narrow stretch of his property in Savannah, Georgia. “I’m a big believer we should be adapting to the environment… I remember walking out and looking at the yard and thinking oh my god the land is calling for this linear design.” He picked up two 40 foot shipping containers from the Port of Savannah and, thanks to much advance planning, he was able to install them without removing one tree from his property. He offset the two boxes, cut out the interior container walls and added I-beams, a shed roof and clerestory windows in the center to provide plenty of daylighting. “There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re inside ...

Here are the top 11 most crazy futuristic architecture designs from an amazing cobra skyscraper to the floating island called The Ark! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 6. Time Square Glass Skyscraper So Japan and China are designing their massive skyscrapers, what about ours!? The eVolo Magazine Skyscraper competition searches possibilities intriguing designs for massive skyscrapers far into the future, and the sky certainly isn’t the limit! Someone proposed the idea of a mile high glass skyscraper in the middle of Manhattan! This concept called essence proposed by Polish architectural designers won first prize in the competition in 2015, hoping some days their dreams might become a reality. This would be some extreme vertical living! Can you imagine getting groceries to your apartment a mile high in the sky? 5. The Hyperion, India The hyperion in the largest tree in the world and it’s location is somewhat of a mystery. But they also used this name for the new towering, eco-friendly building complex in New Delhi! A city that could really use something eco-friendly right now. The amazing thing about this design, is that it is actually going to produce more energy than it takes in! Another amazing design by Vincent Callebaut, these buildings will actually be complete with dairy farms and gardens that both generate energy in ways! Imagine having a farm on your roof top! Crazy idea! These images will give us an idea of what they might look like someday It almost looks like a modern day, Hanging Gardens of Babylon! Agricultural by-products will be turned into methane which will then generate energy. A healthy ecosystem of earthworms, beetles, and bees will oxygenate the soil and keep it fertile. Who wouldn’t want to live here! Should all be ready in 2020 4. The Ark Russian Architect Alexander Remizov designed this wild creation that could save our lives some day and almost like the Noah’s Ark of the future. This would be built to house 10,000 and is almost like a ship/building hybrid. The ark is designed to withstand floods of biblical proportions. The clear roof allows for light to come in and help plants develop inside, creating food sources for the passengers or inhabitants. This design can be built on both land and sea so in the future, if the land becomes overpopulated, we may have to begin living on bodies of water. This is basically a floating island and might be something we use in the future. 3. Floating Farms In 2050. Planet earth is expected to reach a population of 9.1 billion, therefore the demand for food will rise 70%. So much land will be needed for farming and developing food which just might not be available for us with this many people on the earth. Turns out, there’s plenty of space still on the ocean and this may be how agriculture will look in the future. Each farm would harvest three resources; fish, crops, and sunlight. A team from Barcelona, Spain designed this concept that could be how we feed people in future generations. These floating farms, will also feature wave barriers, boat docks, storage, packing areas, and processing centers. Water will be desalinated in order to nourish the crops. 2. Tree Scrapers How would you feel about living in one of these tree scrapers designed by Dutch architect Raimond de Hullu. In this green utopia, there are no cars, now powerlines; only green energy. Homes of the future could be made of recycled wood and covered in green leafy, foliage in order to be protected from the outside elements. Each house would be equipped with solar panels and would be totally off grid. This is almost like a tree house on steroids, right in the middle of the forest! The tall, thin design, helps take up less space but adds affordability and better views from the balcony. If you love nature, this is the best way to go! 1.Cobra Skyscraper Another Russian architect is proposing the idea of constructing a skyscraper that resembles a giant cobra in Asia or the Middle East. This probably seems like something Dubai would consider building. If you’re scared of snakes, this might not be the best place to go to. The unique skyscraper would have interchangeable lights that run up the structure. Inside the head of the structure, there would be a nightclub or restaurant overlooking the city. The design would be a prominent feature in the skyline and a huge tourist attraction. What will they think of next!

So we analyze objects which could become microarchitecture, for example this grain silo it’s actually a perfect size for a mini, mini, mini house.“ *Photo credits: Ishka Michocka, Christian van der Kooij, Jan Korbes Silo House: www.silocity.space REFUNC: http://refunc.nl

“There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re inside a container so in the design we had to address that. I’ve been in a couple of projects and they don’t function very well and you’re like, ‘Oh, I still feel like I’m in a metal box’.” Garcia believes containers can make for affordable homes: “you could put up a structure like this for about 50K”, but much of the interior was salvaged from other job sites (i.e. the drywall and the kitchen). His Price Street Projects creates plans that are “almost do-it-yourself plans” for shipping container homes and he has installed commercial container spaces, but he’s a big believer that the site should determine the design. http://pricestreetprojects.com/ Original story: https://faircompanies.com/videos/artist-builds-his-savannah-studio-with-shipping-containers

A 20ft Shipping Container can be a challenging space to work with when constructing a home. Thankfully, with years of experience building super-yachts and racing boats, shipwright Evans is no stranger to working in small spaces and when it came to building his own home he has done a truly spectacular job of, quite literally, thinking inside the box. http://www.bostonteapartyship.com/ Leon takes us on a tour below decks of the Beaver and discusses colonial ship-building technique. About Leon Poindexter: A master shipwright, Leon Poindexter builds, repairs and restores large, traditionally built historic wooden sailing vessels and their rigs. As a veteran in the industry with more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Poindexter is known for his artistry and has worked on many vessels that are on the National Register of Historic Places. He has also served as the master shipwright for 20th Century Fox to retrofit the tall ship Rose for the Academy Award Winning motion picture Master and Commander starring Russell Crowe. It's no wonder why he was chosen as the architect and contractor for the Boston Tea Party Ships. About the Boston Tea Party Ships: Three ships from London were moored in the Boston Harbor, and each of the ships carried over 100 chests of tea. On the night of December 16, 1773, "The Sons of Liberty" dumped all the chests into the ocean. This defining historical event, known as the Boston Tea Party, sparked the American Revolution. The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum is currently overhauling and constructing two period replica ships- The Beaver and Eleanor. Dartmouth, the third ship, will be built from the bottom up. The all-new museum will feature interactive exhibits, reenactments in the Meeting House, a tavern, and tours of the replica ships. About Albert Viator: A videographer and producer for more than thirty years Albert Viator has shot throughout the world for National Geographic, PBS, and the European Broadcast Union. His work can been seen nationally on many of the broadcast networks as he shoots and produces segments that have appeared on CNN, MSNBC, ESPN and each of the nightly news programs. Living in Gloucester, MA, site of the Beaver restoration, Al has focused on sailing and marine videography throughout his career. Cosmoteer is perhaps best described as a cross between SimCity and Star Trek. It is a spaceship simulator in which you build spaceships SimCity-style by placing individual parts onto a square grid in almost any shape or configuration you can imagine. You then fly around a small galaxy, battle other ships to earn money, and use that money further improve your own ship. Ship design in Cosmoteer is deep and strategic, not merely aesthetic, thanks to authentic simulations of ship flight, ship-to-ship combat, and crew. Ship flight is physically simulated in 2D, meaning that it matters how you choose to place and orient your ship's thrusters. For example, thrusters positioned near the center of mass are good for forward flight, whereas thrusters positioned away from the center are better at turning but need to be counter-balanced by thrusters on the opposite side. Thrusters orientated to the sides will make your ship better at strafing, and thrusters pointing forward will help your ship decelerate. Ship-vs-ship combat is also physically simulated. Whether and where a shot hits the enemy depends not on a die roll but on the physics of the projectile itself. Damage is recorded "part-by-part", meaning that individual systems can be destroyed and entire ships can be sawed in half. In practice, this means you have to think about protecting the most important parts of your ship (such as the Reactor and Control Room), how you protect your most powerful weapons (with shields and armor), and how your ship is shaped. Most ship systems must be operated by one or more people, and supplies such as ammunition and power batteries must also be carried throughout the ship by its crew. Since your cannons can only shoot as fast as they receive ammo, and your shields only recharge as fast as they receive power, you must think strategically about your ship's interior layout and traffic patterns so that the crew don't get congested in tight corridors or have to travel overly long distances. You also need to think about how your ship may function after it's taken battle damage -- a destroyed corridor may cut off access between a cannon and its ammunition, effectively rendering that weapon useless. But on the flip side, you can also use such weaknesses in the enemy ships to your advantage, hamstringing them without having to destroy their heavily-armored weapons. When Rosa Sheng was a child, she dreamed of being an architect but was discouraged by her family. The outrage she felt as a youth resurfaced by the time she was a grown-up, successful architect ready to jump ship and leave her job. In her revealing talk, Sheng describes the challenges and “pinch points” faced by women in architecture, and relays the eye-opening moment when it took three dinner invitations from Steve Jobs to make her realize her value. Since then, her Equity by Design organization has called for action to be taken on the data - and has brought to the table a community ready to join forces to accomplish the daunting and “eat the whale”. Rosa Sheng sees equity as everyone’s issue. Sheng is a licensed architect with over 20 years experience. Sheng has led a variety of acclaimed projects, including the highly technical development of the glass structures for Apple’s original high-profile retail stores. Sheng helped launch a national conversation about the lack of women leaders in her field. She is the Founding Chair of the American Institute of Architects San Francisco (AIASF) Committee: Equity by Design. Equity by Design is a call to action for both women and men to realize the goal of equitable practice to advance architecture and communicate the value of design to society. Sheng spearheaded the group’s groundbreaking study, “The Missing 32% Project”, which examined the reasons behind the dramatic drop-off rate between women in schooling for architecture and women who went on to become licensed practicing architects. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
